Pakistan Olympics Association faces govt, PSB grilling

ISLAMABAD (TheSportsNext) August 9, 2012: Following a dismal performance of Pakistani athletes at the London2012 Olympic Games, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) is likely to face grilling by officials of the government and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

According to a report published in Nai Baat newspaper on Thursday, the Pakistan Sports Board has decided to implement the Pakistan Sports Policy on the all the sports federations in the light of Supreme Court of Pakistan’s directives.

London2012: Pakistan beat Korea 3-2 to secure 7th position

LONDON (TheSportsNext) August 9, 2012: Pakistani skipper Sohail Abbas achieved yet another milestone in international hockey on Thursday as he led his country to seventh place in the London 2012 Hockey Tournament with a 3-2 victory over Korea at Riverbank Arena.

Pakistan had ended at eighth position in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games but this time they managed to lift their game against Korea to secure the seventh position after a horrible defeat to the hands of Hockeyroos the other day.

LONDON (TheSportsNext) August 7, 2012: Australia crushed Pakistan by 7-0 to qualify into semi-finals stage of the London 2012 hockey tournament at Riverbank Arena here Tuesday.

Australia stamped their authority right over Pakistan right at the start of their all-important match as Liam De Young and Mark Knowles gave the Hockeyroos two goals advantage inside the first ten minutes.

LONDON (TheSportsNext) August 3, 2012: Ashley Jackson scored twice as Great Britain saw Pakistan off with a 4-1 victory in Group B of the London 2012 hockey tournament here Friday.

Ashley Jackson scored his two goals from the short corner after James Tindall gave the hosts an early lead. The Great Britain were leading the Green Shirts by two goals to nil at halftime.

London2012: Samiullah asks Green Shirts to cut mistakes

KARACHI (TheSportsNext) August 2, 2012: Pakistan’s former Olympian Samiullah Khan Niazi urged the national hockey team to cut down on their mistakes if they want to challenge the very best in the London 2012 hockey tournament.

Talking to local media after Pakistan defeated Argentina by two goals to nil, Samiullah, also known as Flying Horse, said that while it was good to see Pakistan scoring goals from short corners but at the same time they lacked field goals which are equally important to win big games.

London2012: Great Britain top group in women’s hockey

LONDON (TheSportsNext) August 1, 2012: Great Britain’s women hockey players gifted the injured captain Kate Walsh an emphatic performance on Tuesday as they defeated South Korea by 5-3 by scoring two goals in the last 14 minutes.

The victory has helped Great Britain to top the group with two victories in as many matches after Belgium held Beijing2008 silver medalists China to a goalless draw.

As many as seven world records and eight Olympic records have been broken by the London2012 athletes in sports like swimming, archery, rowing, shooting, and weightlifting.
