COLOMBO (TheSportsNext) August 11, 2012:
Nagenahira Nagas started the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League 2012 on a
winning note here Saturday when they defeated Ruhana Royals by five runs on
Duckworth/Lewis Method at R Premadasa Stadium in the opening match of the
competition.
Batting first, Ruhana Royals could manage 134 all out from
their 20 overs. Lahiru Thirimanne (34 from 33 – 1 six) was their top-scorer
while Daniel Harris (19 from 18 – 2 fours), Shahid Afridi (18 from 12 – 1 four,
1 six), and Aaron Finch (14 from 15 – 2 fours) also contributed value in the
total.
Shaminda Eranga led Nagenahira Nagas’s effort with the ball
and played a crucial role in keeping Ruhana Royals to a lower total by claiming
three wickets for just 15 runs while orthodox spinner Ajantha Mendis also
bowled well for his figures of three for 34.
In reply, Nagenahira Nagas were looking good to chase down
the target when they reached 77 for two from 12 overs but rains played
spoilsport and match officials had to decide the match on Duckworth Lewis
Method.
