NEW DELHI (TheSportsNext) July 18, 2012: The Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) announced Wednesday a 30-member preliminary squad for the 2012 ICC World T20 recalling Yuvraj Singh and Lakshmipathy Balaji.

This is the first time, Yuvraj Singh has been included in the Team India following his battle against the rare germ cell cancer while medium-pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji got a surprise call after his fruitful IPL5 stint with the champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

India squad for 2012 ICC World Twenty20 includes Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, R. Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha, Umesh Yadav, Ashok Dinda, Ajinkya Rahane, Manoj Tiwary, Rahul Sharma, Vinay Kumar, Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Mandeep Singh, Piyush Chawla, Ravindra Jadeja, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, Munaf Patel, Naman Ojha, Dinesh Karthik, Praveen Kumar, and Lakshmipathy Balaji.

Harbhajan Singh, who had been overlooked recently by the BCCI selectors, has also got his name in the 30-man squad while Kings XI Punjab’s Mandeep Singh, Mumbai Indian’s Ambati Rayudu, and Rajasthan Royals’ Naman Ojha were also picked n the preliminary list.

BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale announced the squad. On the occasion, BCCI Chief Selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth said of Yuvraj Singh, “I think a guy who has won the World Cup for us deserves to come back”.

Rajasthan Royals’ star performer in the IPL5, Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan have also found their names in the list.

Yuvraj Singh, who has a great reputation as a limited overs all-round player, is renowned for the six sixes he struck against English bowler Stuart Broad during the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa.

Yuvraj Singh, also known as Yuvi, has already started practicing at Bangaluru’s National Cricket Academy and the BCCI selectors are keeping a close look at his rehabilitation process and it would be interesting to see whether the hard-hitting stylish middle order batsman finds his name in the final list.
