LONDON: Pakistani
left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman is facing visa problem which has delayed his debut
stint with the England county cricket team Somerset.
Abdur Rehman, who is an essential part of Pakistan’s Test
team, was expected to join Somerset for making his debut in the English County
Championship Division One with the game against Warwickshire on Wednesday but
visa problem has delayed his arrival in England.
Brian Rose, Director of Cricket, told local media,
"Abdur Rehman has applied for his visa but we are still waiting for the
outcome. It looks more troubled the longer it goes on."
It is important to mention here that Somerset has been
facing issues with overseas players after South African fast bowler Vernon
Philander was only available for five matches before rejoining his national
side. Now, the England county side is looking at 32-year-old Abdur Rehman to
fill in for the Proteas pacer but visa problem is not helping the cause.
Brian Rose stated, "I'm on plan K at the moment. I
would need a week to ten days to find an alternative. We'll wait and see what
happens in the next few days, but we'll only wait for a certain time because
obviously time is pressing."
