KARACHI (TheSportsNext) August 2, 2012: The
long-awaited World XI tour to Pakistan has once again been postponed due to
unavailability of top Pakistan cricketers for the series, Dr. MA Shah told
local media on Wednesday evening.
This is the second time that the World XI tour Pakistan has
been postponed. The last time it was cancelled in May 2012 after the Pakistan
Cricket Board (PCB) ordered Dr. MA Shah to postpone the two-match series as the
Pakistan cricket team was preparing for the Sri Lanka tour.
Dr MA Shah, who is renowned for his service to the game of
cricket in Pakistan, said, “The PCB allowed only Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal,
and Saeed Ajmal to play against the World XI but we wanted all players of the
national team”.
It is important to mention here that the World XI is due to
tour Pakistan to play two Twent20 matches in Karachi in a bid to restore
confidence of international teams in playing in terror-hit Pakistan. The series
organizers claimed that former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya, Justin
Kemp, Charl Langeveldt, Paul Adams, Andre Nel, Richard Levi and Jerome Taylor
had shown their willingness to tour and play in Pakistan.
Dr. Mohammad Ali Shah revealed, “Now the two T20 matches between
World XI and PCB XI will take place on 9th and 10th of October in Karachi just
after the 2012 ICC World Twenty20”.
He added that the PCB has informed that the top Pakistani
cricketers would be available after the Australia series therefore it has been
decided to organize these matches in first half of October.
