LONDON (TheSportsNext) August 9, 2012: Pakistani
skipper Sohail Abbas achieved yet another milestone in international hockey on
Thursday as he led his country to seventh place in the London 2012 Hockey
Tournament with a 3-2 victory over Korea at Riverbank Arena.
Pakistan had ended at eighth position in the Beijing 2008
Olympic Games but this time they managed to lift their game against Korea to
secure the seventh position after a horrible defeat to the hands of Hockeyroos
the other day.
The match proved a memorable one for Pakistani skipper
Sohail Abbas who represented the Green Shirts in his 350th
international hockey match as Pakistan came from behind twice before scoring
the decisive goal with nine minutes to play.
Korea took lead with five minutes to play in the first half
with Hye Sung Hyun opening the score but Muhammad Waqas leveled the affair
within a minute. However, Hyun once again made his moves to lead his side with
a 2-1 advantage at the halftime.
Abdul Haseem Khan scored off his own rebound in the second
half to equalize the match before Muhammad Imran scored the winning goal with
only nine minutes to play.
Despite of a sorry campaign at the London2012, Pakistani
hockey team ended as the top hockey team in Asia as Pakistan ended seventh,
Korea eighth, while India ended last.
