Shoaib Akhtar tells PCB to hire foreign experts for PPL

By Babar Malik

ISLAMABAD (TheSportsNext) July 23, 2012: The world’s fastest-ever bowler, Shoaib Akhtar has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to hire services of foreign experts for organizing the first-ever Pakistan Premier League (PPL).

Shoaib Akhtar, who has been critical of the way PCB has functioned, once again raised doubts on abilities of the PCB officials by advising them to hire some foreign experts if they want the inaugural edition of the PPL to be successful.

Shoaib Akhtar said, “Seventy year old people can’t organize the PPL. The PCB should hire services of foreign consultants instead of old people for hosting a successful event if it really wants to organise a successful event.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board has been struggling with the financial issues amid absence of home series and hence the top officials have been planning to organize Pakistan Premier League to fight the financial crunch.

Ever since the launch of Indian Premier League, other South Asian cricket boards have also followed the suit as Bangladesh successfully organized Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) while the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is holding the inaugural edition of Sri Lanka Premier League next month.

When PCB officials were asked about Shoaib Akhtar’s suggestions, they informed local media that the PCB is already in the process of hiring an independent foreign commissioner for the Pakistan Premier League.

"We have even got some foreign companies to show interest in the PPL and make presentations,” said the board official, who didn’t want to be named.
