KARACHI (TheSportsNext) July 23, 2012: The
Bangladesh cricket team outplayed Ireland in three-match Twenty20 International
series on this weekend which has earned them a respectable fourth position in
the Reliance ICC Twenty20 Rankings.
By clean-sweeping the Irish team in their backyard, the
Bangladesh cricket team fetched enough points to go past teams like Pakistan,
Australia, New Zealand, and India in the Reliance ICC Twenty20 Rankings issued
on Monday.
England are still on top of the rankings while South Africa
and Sri Lanka follow at second and third position, respectively.
Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladeshi captain, had told media before
the Ireland tour, “We are still not good in the new format of the game. Due to
lack of international matches we are not even in the ICC Twenty20 international
rankings, while even Afghanistan occupies a spot in the rankings”.
"We have a chance to break into the (rankings) table if
we can win matches on this tour," Rahim added.
However, his team proved him right by producing strong
performances in all the three Twenty20 matches and not only grabbed the fourth
position but also left Ireland languishing at 11th after slipping
two berths down. Afghanistan are at 10th place in the latest edition
of the ICC Twenty20 Rankings.
