COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (TheSportsNext) September 18, 2012: Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene missed out on an opportunity to bring up 1,000 runs in his Twenty20 International career when he was run out during inaugural match of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 (ICCWT20) at Hambantota on Tuesday.
Mahela Jayawardene, who is the most prolific batsman for Sri Lanka in Twenty20 cricket, needed only 19 runs to complete his 1,000 T20 career runs.
He was caught short of his crease by a combination of bowler Graeme Cremer and Malcolm Waller when he tried to steal two runs down to the deep mid-wicket boundary.
The Sri Lankan captain fell only six runs short of achieving the milestone as his innings was culminated on the unlucky 13.
