ICC U19 World Cup: Afghanistan win battle of minnows

BUDERIM, Australia (TheSportsNext) August 15, 2012: The Afghanistan U19 cricket team won the battle of minnows at the 2012 ICC U19 World Cup on Wednesday when they defeated Scotland U19 by 10 runs in the Group B match played at John Blanck Oval in Buderim.



Batting first, Afghanistan U19 were bowled out for 191 from 48.3 overs with skipper Javed Ahmad (71) and Afsar Khan (44) top scoring whereas Gavin Main (4/26) and Ruaidhri Smith (4/45) did Scotland U19 proud with superb bowling.

In reply, Scotland U19 were bowled out for 181 runs from 49.2 overs as nobody could support Ross McLean (67). Sayed Shirzad (3/33) and Aftab Alam (2/45) bowled well for Afghanistan U19. Afghan skipper Javed Ahmadi was declared Man of the Match.
