LAGUNA SECA, California (TheSportsNext) July 30, 2012: Casey Stoner, the current MotoGP World Champion from Australia, kept his title hopes alive on Sunday when he outpaced championship leader Jorge Lorenzo to clinch the US Grand Prix 2012 title.

Casey Stoner, who was victorious at the Californian course of Laguna Seca last year, beat Jorge Lorenzo by almost three and a half seconds. His Spanish Repsol Honda mate Dani Pedrosa finished third with 7.633 seconds behind.

With this victory, Casey Stoner is now 32 points away from Jorge Lorenzo who now has increase his championship lead to 23 points over Pedrosa.

Casey Stoner is bidding to win his third straight world title before an impending retirement at the end of the season.

Among the local drivers, Nicky Hayden was the fastest as he finished sixth with 26.902 seconds behind the champion Casey Stoner.

Casey Stoner started the US Grand Prix 2012 at the second place on the grid with Jorge Lorenzo leading the lot and soon the Aussie was demoted to third and made to chase the Spanish duo.

However, Aussie champion biker overtook Pedrosa on lap two of 32 before surpassing Lorenzo with only 11 laps to go.

In the end, it was a tactical masterstroke that helped Casey Stoner win the US GP 2012 as he was the only biker who opted for his front-runner to start on softer option rear tires which paid huge dividends to the Aussie biker.

Casey Stoner told reporters, "It was tactical from the start we went on the softer option which nobody decided to go on so I wanted to go in front from the outset. I bided my time, hunted Jorge down and in the end went past."
