MELBOURNE, Australia (TheSportsNEXT) December 3, 2012: Famous Australian cricket commentator Bill Lawry has announced to conclude his 35 years long career in the commentary box at the end of the Australia cricket summer.

Commentating at the Australia vs South Africa 3rd Test at Perth on Sunday, the 75-year-old Bill Lawry said that he will pull up stumps after the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.

The Sydney Cricket Ground will host that Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka from January 3-7, 2013 which will eventually be Bill Lawry’s final Test as cricket commentator for Channel 9.

Bill Lawry, who is the most popular cricket commentator in Australia for his excitement-filled cricket gestures, represented Australia as Test opener and has been fighting health issues in the last few years.

It seems the time has come for the Channel 9 to install the new breed of cricket commentators as Tony Greig is already battling against cancer while Richie Benaud has already skipped his on-air commitments owing to illness.

Bill Lawry started his cricket commentary career in 1977 during the infamous Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket and since then he has been one of the most loved commentators across the globe.

Some of his famous sayings are: “Got him, yes!" and "It's all happening".

Bill Lawry represented Australia in 67 Tests scoring 5,234 runs at an average of 47.15. He made his Test debut in 1961 and had a top score of 210 against the West Indies.
