(TheSportsNext) September 5, 2012: England top-order batsman Jonathan
Trott, who had injured his hand during the fourth match, was ruled out of the
fifth and the final One Day International against South Africa, to be played in
Nottingham on Wednesday.
England are leading the five-match ODI series by 2-1 after
first match of the series was washed out and the importance of the final
encounter is for the South Africa to square the series while its impact on the
ICC rankings would be zero as England have already cemented their place on top
of the ICC ODI Rankings by winning the fourth match.
South African fast bowler Dale Steyn had hit Jonathan Trott
on his hand with a short delivery during the fourth One Day International at
Lord’s which England won by six wickets.
As per the reports emerging from England’s camp, the injury
wasn’t of severe nature and there wasn’t any major fracture after Jonathan
Trott underwent an X-ray on Monday.
Trott did take part in Tuesday’s practice session with his
teammates but the team management decided to rest him for the final encounter
so as to keep him safe from any bigger injury.
The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Tuesday
evening that Jonathan Trott will not be part of the England cricket team for
the final ODI against South Africa and Jos Buttler, Somerset batsman, will
replace him in the squad.
However, sources told this scribe that Jonathan Bairstow
would replace Jonathan Trott in the final playing eleven for the match.
Another absentee at the final ODI would be England coach Andy
Flower who is taking a short break to spend time with his family before his
side take on the Proteas in the three-match Twenty20 International series and
then take off to Sri Lanka for participating in the ICC World Twenty20 2012
which starts September 18, 2012.
