Split coaches for different formats was John Buchanan's idea

By Bipin Dani

SHARJAH (TheSportsNext) August 24, 2012: The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) board and the national director of cricket, John Buchanan had expressed an interest in having separate coaches for separate formats of the game.

Interestingly, he may not have given this idea during his tenure as coach in Australia.

It was also reported that Rixon was interested in taking over the head coaching job of the Australian cricket team when John Buchanan left at the end of the 2006/07 Ashes series.

Now Rixon is here coaching the Australian team for the ODI component of the team’s VB Tour of the UAE and the regular coach, Micky Arthur has stayed back and is preparing for the remaining part of the series.

"I can’t recall coaching duties being split this way before the Argus Report which, by coincidence, was tabled a year ago today", Peter Young, Cricket Australia's General Manager said from Melbourne..

"That report recommended that the old national coaching role be expanded to effectively become the head coach of Australian cricket – not just coach of the Australian men’s team".

"As such, the Argus report recommended that the national coach not coach every single game as time would require him to also attend to other duties across Australian cricket", he signed off.
