(TheSportsNext) July 24, 2012: Hashim Amla's family in Durban was happier
than the rest of the world to see his triple hundred in the month of Ramadan.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Durban, his elder
brother, Ahmed Amla, who is also a professional cricketer, said, "We are
very pleased for him. Someone had to be the first to achieve the 300 and it
couldn't have happened to a more deserving human being, never mind that he is
an amazing batsman".
Interestingly, Amla rarely misses fasting during the Muslim holy
month of Ramadan. However, on this tour he has not been fasting but has vowed
to make it up once the tour is over. He has been spiritually following Moulana
Yunus Patel, a reputed South African Islamic scholar and a Sunni practitioner.
His appeal of alcohol-promoting logos be not produced on his
merchandise and playing gear has readily been accepted by Cricket South Africa
(CSA).
"We only watched a little more than 30 minutes. Rather
South Africa won the Test match and he played a match winning innings. We
always have more to smile about when the team wins", he said minutes after
the South African won the match against England by an inning and 12 runs on
Monday.
