KARACHI (TheSportsNext) July 31, 2012:
Pakistan’s youngest squash sensation, Danish Atlas, on Tuesday, urged the
Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) to provide permanent jobs to the young squash
players.
Danish Atlas made the appeal during a ceremony held to hand
cash prizes to the country’s junior squash team which won silver medal at the
Men’s World Junior Squash Championship.
Danish stated that employment was a necessary incentive for
the players.
“Permanent employment is very necessary for a sportsman
because he performs much better if he knows that his future is secure,” Danish
told local media after the ceremony.
He added, “We want to give our best to Pakistan but we
haven’t been able to play in important Professional Squash Association
tournaments. Hence we’ve requested the Pakistan Squash Federation to help us
get entries in these events so that we can improve our ranking and be eligible
for those.”
During the ceremony Danish Atlas was paid 100,000 rupees for
his sterling show at the World Junior Squash Championship while his teammates
including Nasir Iqbal, Hamza Bukhari, Ali Bukhari and Tayyab Aslam – and coach
Jamshed Gul received 300,000 rupees each.
When asked about his meeting with the new PSF president, Danish
Atlas said that Mr. Tahir Rafique Butt took time out of his busy schedule to
listen to the players therefore they are hopeful about future of squash players
in Pakistan.
Danish Atlas, who is only 18 years old, suggested the PSF to
set targets for every squash player in the country and award the ones with the
target achievers with incentives.
He added, “There should be a target and facilitation. If any
player fails then there should be accountability, in this way everybody would
give their best.”
