LAHORE (TheSportsNext) July 21, 2012: Chaudhry
Zaka Ashraf, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it clear that
wicket-keeper-batsman Kamran Akmal was included in the national team only after
getting cleared by the International Cricket Council.
Kamran Akmal was out of favors of the PCB selectors since
the ICC World Cup 2011 due to suspicious performances, dropping catches and
missing run-outs, but recently got his name in the list of players selected for
the upcoming Twenty20 series against Australia in United Arab Emirates.
While talking to local news channel, Zaka Ashraf said, "As
regards Kamran Akmal, the PCB approached the ruling global body ICC and asked
if the ICC had any objection to Kamran's selection. The ICC said it had nothing
against Kamran Akmal and when clearance came from ICC, then the PCB integrity
committee cleared him for national selection”.
"Pakistan badly needed a keeper who could also
contribute with the bat as well," Ashraf added.
