KARACHI, Pakistan
(TheSportsNEXT) November 12, 2012: 15 year old Javeria Mirza became the
youngest scrabble player in Pakistan to win a ranking tournament. She won 8 out
of 9 matches to take the title at the 13th Ranking Scrabble Tournament played
at Beach Luxury hotel on Sunday.
The newly selected players for the World Youth Scrabble
Championship displayed great skills against much experiences and seasoned
players. No less than 5 players in the top 10 were teenagers.
The senior players found the going very tough against the
highly motivated youth players. Only the national champion Waseem Khatri
managed to put up some resistance before succumbing to Javeria and finishing
2nd with 7 wins while another 15 year old Muhammad Inshal finished 3rd with 6
wins.
The youngsters who
have been practising very hard for the World Youth Scrabble Championship took
full advantage of the opportunity to compete against the top players in the
country and gained the much needed practise ahead of the world championship
which is to be played in England during December.
PSA officials are very confident of the team's chances at
the world championship this year as the players have been doing very well at
the ranking tournaments of late.
