ICCWT20: Zimbabwe win toss, put Sri Lanka into bat

By Fathima Zanaida

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: Zimbabwe captain Brenden Taylor has won the toss and asked hosts Sri Lanka to bat first in the inaugural match of the ICCWT20 2012 at Hambantota.

Speaking at the toss here Tuesday, Brenden Taylor hoped that his bowlers would make use of the small patches of grass available on the pitch to dismantle strong Sri Lankan batting order and give their side a moderate total to chase.

On the other hand, Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene, who needs only 19 runs to complete 1,000 T20I runs, said that winning or losing the toss doesn’t matter a lot and it’s always great to post total on the board.

As far as the team compositions are concerned, Sri Lanka have Dilshan Munaweera making his T20 International debut while orthodox spinner Ajantha Mendis is making a comeback into the national side.

Zimbabwe had decided not to go with Ray Price and Prosper Utseya and Graeme Cremer will be playing roles of spinners while Brian Vittori and Kyle Jarvis will use the new ball with hopes of making early inroads.

Sri Lankan team includes Dilshan Munaweera, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene (Captain), Kumar Sangakkara (Wicketkeeper), Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne, Thisara Perera, Ajantha Mendis, Nuwan Kulasekara, Jeevan Mendis, Lasith Malinga

Zimbabwe team includes Hamilton Masakadza, Vusi Sibanda, Brenden Taylor (Captain and Wicketkeeper), Craig Ervine, Malcolm Waller, Elton Chigumbura, Graeme Cremer, Prosper Utseya, Kyle Jarvis, Brian Vitori, and Chris Mpofu.
