(TheSportsNext) August 1, 2012: The world record holder Pakistani skipper Sohail Abbas led his side from the front in a crucial encounter of the London2012 hockey tournament against Argentina as the Green Shirts won the match by 2-0 and kept their gold medal hopes alive.
This was very important match for both the teams but Pakistan displayed exceptionally well and won it in great fashion.

With this victory, Pakistan have boosted their chances to qualify for the semi-final stage of the London2012 Hockey Tournament as Great Britain drew their important match against South Africa 2-2.
The legend and proud of Pakistan Sohail Abbas has now become the top goal scorer in the world and highest-ever in history of Olympics. Pakistan goalkeeper Imran Shah also played exceptionally well as he never allowed an opening to Argentina players.
Pakistan will take on host Great Britain on Friday August 3 and victory in the match will certainly brighten Pakistan chances for the medal in the London Olympics 2012.
Australia will meet Argentina while South Africa will play against Spain in other Group A matches. In Group B matches, Netherlands will meet New Zealand, Germany will face India, while Belgium will take on Korea.

Both teams got four penalty corners each where Pakistan converted two penalty corners while Argentina failed to break the defense of Imran Shah on all the four occasions. Muhammad Imran scored the opening goal for Pakistan in the 30th minute of the match as Pakistan finished the first half with 1-0 lead.
Sohail Abbas scored the second Pakistani goal in the 44th minute of the match and made another world record and new Olympic record with highest goal scorer ever in history of Olympics.
Sohail Abbas, happy on his team’s performance, said, “"Once again, I would request the nation to pray for us. Team is doing its best to win the Olympic medal. We are trying hard to improve our game; we need to play more improved Hockey to win the match against Great Britain."

thrashed Spain by 5-0 while Great Britain drew to South Africa by 2-2 in Group
A, while in Group B matches, Netherlands defeated Belgium 3-1 to record their
second victory in the as many matches, India suffered their second defeat in
two matches as they were defeated by New Zealand by 3-1 while Germany also
registered its second victory in the tournament by beating Korea 1-0.
