Pakistan U19 cricket team returned to winning ways on Wednesday when they
defeated Papua New Guinea U19 in a one-sided 2012 ICC U19 World Cup warm-up
match by eight wickets at Norman Gray Oval in Brisbane.
Pakistan’s aggressive opening batsman Sami Aslam regained
his lost touch in the match as he blasted 132 runs from just 99 balls with the
help of 22 boundaries and three sixes as Pakistan U19 achieved their target in
32.3 overs with eight wickets in hands.
Earlier, Papua New Guinea U19 could manage only 194 for six
from their 50 overs, thanks to handy innings by opener Lega Siaka (46 from 77 –
2 fours, 1 six), Dogodo Bau (37 not out from 59 – 2 fours, 1 six), and Nigel
Boge (41 not out from 46 – 4 fours, 1 six). From Pakistan U19, Usman Qadir
grabbed three wickets for 32 runs from his 10 overs.
In reply, Pakistan completed the chase for the loss of only
two wickets with Sami Aslam hitting an aggressive hundred. Imam-ul-Haq (38 not
out from 62 – 4 fours) continued his good run of form and stayed there till
execution of the job in hand.
Pakistan U19 will kick off their
2012 ICC U19 World Cup campaign on August 11, 2012 against Afghanistan at
Buderim. The Group B match will start at 4:30am Pakistan time.
