LONDON: Manchester United returned to winning ways on Saturday when they edged out Fulham by three goals to two while Chelsea continued their winning spree to cement their place on top of the English Premier League 2013.

Following is the recap of the English Premier League 2012-13 matches played on August 25, 2012.

Manchester United 3-2 Fulham
Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa scored on their debut as the Manchester United came from behind to outlast Fulham by three goals to two at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Fulham got a shocking early lead when Damien Duff scored in only the third minute of the match thus ringing alarm bells for Sir Alex Ferguson and his men who were outplayed by Everton in their opening match of the season last week.

However, Manchester United’s latest signing Robin van Persie responded well in his debut game for the Red Devils and scored the equalizer in 10th minute. Another Manchester United debutant Shinji Kagawa from Japan then took the home team into advantage with a clean strike in 35th minute before Rafael made it 3-1 for Sir Alex Ferguson’s United.

Manchester United scored another goal in 64th minute of the match but this time they selected the wrong net as Nemanja Vidic scored an own goal which turned the final 25 minutes of the match into fiery ones. However, Manchester United showed enough maturity and experience to see off their opposition and score their first points in the English Premier League 2012-13 season.

Chelsea FC 2-0 Newcastle United
Chelsea FC defeated Newcastle United by two goals to nil, thanks to classy goals by Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres.

Hazard gave Chelsea FC the lead only in the 22nd minute of the match before Torres doubled the advantage in the 48th minute of the match.

Newcastle United looked down-trodden and could never match the excellence of their opposition.

This is the third successive victory for the Chelsea FC in the English Premier League 2013.

Wigan Athletic 2-0 Southampton
Goals from Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kone helped Wigan Athletic to a 2-0 victory over Southampton (Saints) who discovered Saturday that playing premier league can be a real tough challenge.

The Saints were put to the sword despite of a promising display as Franco Di Santo broke the shackles in 51st minute of the match.

The match was played in a thrilling mode for the best part and it remained anybody’s game until Arouna Kone doubled the lead for the Wigan Athletics in 89th minute to seal the victory.

Swansea City 3-0 West Ham United
Swansea City produced yet another super performance in the English Premier League on Saturday when they outplayed West Ham United in a 3-0 victory.

The triumph made sure that Swansea City got full points from their first two games of the fresh season as they are now second only to Chelsea FC after scoring eight goals so far and successfully defended their goal with no scores against them.

Angel Rangel opened the goals spree for the Swansea City in 20th minute before Miguel Perez Cuesta doubled the lead in 29th minute as the two teams entered the halftime with Swansea leading by 2-0.

There was more to come from the Swansea City in the second half as Danny Graham completed the romp with a beautiful goal in 64th minute of the match.

After this defeat, the West Ham United are at 10th position in the points table with 50 percent record in the first two matches of the 2013 English Premier League.

Everton 3-1 Aston Villa
Everton continued to shine in opening matches of the 2013 English Premier League on Saturday when they clobbered Aston Villa by 3-1 to surge to third place in the 2013 Premier League Standings.

The victory was attributed to three classic goals by Steven Pienaar, Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic, all in the first half while Karim El Ahmadi pulled one back for Aston Villa in 75th minute of the match.

Steven Pienaar scored the first goal only in third minute to silence to local crowd before Marouane Fellaini hit the second goal in 31st minute. The victory seemed in sight when Nikica Jelavic made it 3-0 for the visiting Everton in 44th minute to lead the side into half time with an absolute advantage. Karim El Ahmadi secured some pride for the local team in the 75th minute but it was never a performance that could fetch Aston Villa a victory against the high-flying Everton who are now third in the 2013 premier league standings with only goal difference enabling Swansea City to capture the second place.

Norwich City 1-1 Queens Park Rangers
Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City opened their account in the English Premier League 2013 points table on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road.

The two teams were manhandled in their opening games of the fresh season with 5-0 defeats last weekend but this time the players resorted to play defensively but Norwich City did dominate in the second half.

Norwich City took the lead in 11th minute when Simeon Jackson resurrected hopes for the first victory under new manager Chris Hughton.

However, it wasn’t to be as Bobby Zamora equalized in 19th minute off a rebound from a penalty. Norwich City and QPR are placed at 16th and 17th place, respectively in the points table after registering their first points of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 West Bromwich Albion
Tottenham Hotspur recorded their first point in the Barclays English Premier League 2012-13 on Saturday when they drew 1-1 against West Bromwich Albion who stayed among the top performers in the first couple of weeks of the fresh season.

Tottenham Hotspur looked on course to grab full points from the match after Cameroon national soccer player BenoƮt Assou-Ekotto struck for them in 74th minute of the match.

Tottenham did manage to keep the possession afterwards but Scottish James Morrison then scored the equalizer in the 91st minute to pour water on Hotspur’s hopes of full points from the match.

After their drawn game, the Tottenham Hotspur are at 14th position in the points table with West Bromwich Albion are at fourth position with four points from their first two matches.
