THE HAGUE:
Bangladesh ended their tour to Europe on a losing note on Thursday when
Netherlands squared the Twenty20 International series with a spirited last-ball
victory at Sportpark Westvliet.
Chasing 129 runs to win the second Twenty20 International
match against Bangladesh, Netherlands rode on a brilliant half-century by
Michael Swart (61 from 49 – 4 fours, 2 sixes) before tail-ender Ahsan Malik hit
boundary off the last ball to complete a spirited victory in front of the home
crowd which went berserk with the winning shot.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 128 runs before getting all out
on final delivery of their innings. Tamim Iqbal (50 from 46 – 2 fours) was the
top scorer for the second consecutive day and while he lacked support from
other top-order batsmen Mahmudullah (41 from 31 – 6 fours) gave him due
support. In the end some lusty hitting by Ziaur Rehman (22 from 17 – 2 fours, 1
six) helped the tourists to a fighting total of 128 runs.
Michael Swart was declared Man of the Match for his
brilliant half century.
