England preliminary squad for 2012 ICC World Twenty20 includes Stuart Broad, (captain), James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Gareth Batty, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Scott Borthwick, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Steven Croft, Steven Davies (wicket-keeper), Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Craig Kieswetter (wicket-keeper), Michael Lumb, Stuart Meaker, Eoin Morgan, Graham Onions, Samit Patel, Matt Prior (wkt), Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Graeme Swann, James Taylor, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes, and Luke Wright.

Kevin Pietersen, 32, had recently announced retirement from One Day International cricket, following the ECB relieved him from Twenty20 International cricket as well and now he is only available for Test cricket.

The local media had reported in the past few days that Kevin Pietersen did show his intent to represent England in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 but the ECB official remained firm on their principled stance that only those players would be selected who are available for both ODIs and T20s.

The ECB will submit with the ICC its final squad of 15 on August 18.

Kevin Pietersen is the most successful batsman to-date in Twenty20 cricket as he boasts an average of 37.93 and has scored 1,176 runs.
