COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (TheSportsNext) September 19, 2012: Ireland captain William Porterfield has won the toss and decided to bat first in their first match of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 (ICCWT20) against Australia at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
David Hussey has once again failed to find a place in the Australian playing eleven as skipper George Bailey simply found no room for him in the top six but hoped he will get his chance somewhere in the tournament.
Australia are relying heavily on their young fast bowling attack that has the services of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Dan Christian, ably supported by Shane Watson, while the 41-year-old Brad Hogg will always be there to share his experience with the team to dig them out of the precarious situations.
On the other hand, Ireland have enjoyed good time so far in Sri Lanka where they were able to defeat Bangladesh by only five runs after a classic fight in their warm-up and are looking in good shape mentally and physically to challenge the very best in the business.
They have a history as giant-killers and they would be looking to give their best today to dent an Aussie side which hasn’t met success in recent times.
The world’s best umpire, on statistics, Aleem Dar from Pakistan and ICC’s best umpire of the year Kumar Dharmasena are officiating in the match.
